Star-Studded Radical Racing At Donington

21st September 2010

This weekend, Donington Park host the spectacular showdown to a great season of Radical racing in the UK, with the final rounds of the 2010 Quaife Radical Clubman’s Cup, and a special non-championship, all-comers Competition Car Insurance Radical Cup event.

With the UK Cup title decided at the final points-scoring round at Silverstone, there’s nothing to lose for the competitors in this weekend’s three endurance races. Guest driver, current FIA World Touring Car Championship driver Rob Huff will competing, driving alongside 2009 Clubman’s Cup Prosport Class vice-champion Jonathan Wright in a works-run SR8. “I’ve never raced a sports car before so it’s a new area for me,” said Huff to Motorsport News. “I haven’t raced at Donington for about five years so it will be good to go there again.”

17 teams are already confirmed for this event, including the father-and-daughter pairing of Rob and Rachel Davies, after a successful year for Rachel in the Quaife Radical Club Cup. Radical Works driver Rob Wheldon will make his first SR8 start this year, paired with Roger Bromiley, whilst James Abbott moves up from the SR3 RS he normally contests in the UK and Clubman’s Cup, to another works SR8.

In the Quaife Radical Clubman’s Cup, only four points separate Colin Millar and Darren Luke ahead of the title decider. After a slow start to the season, Millar has clawed back Luke’s initial points advantage, and will be looking to repeat last year’s series win, albeit in the Supersports class this year. Also joining the Clubman’s Cup field for the final round are David Brocklehurst, Roger Green and Jon-Paul Ivey.
