Radical Masters: Spa-Francorchamps, Race 1
8th May 2010
Radical’s 2010 international season kicked off in style this afternoon, with 360 Racing’s pairing of Terrance Woodward and Ross Kaiser taking a dominant win at Spa-Francorchamps.
Race one saw a clean getaway into La Source, with all cars emerging unscathed. Jamie Patterson had the initial lead, his SR8 LM with the legs into Eau Rouge, over Kaiser’s SR8 Supersport. However, Kaiser’s late-braking manoeuvre after Kemmel handed him the lead, a lead which he maintained to the end of the race.
Behind the leading pairing, Roger Bromiley was initially third. Pre-weekend UK Cup leader Derek Johnston was forced to retire on lap 7 following a racing incident, one lap before the pit window opened. With 46 cars competing, the three-lap window was extremely busy!
Woodward and Patterson maintained position after the stops, but were slowly being caught by one of the sensations of the weekend. Per Staaf, driving a Radical PR6, was close to the front two, with Shaun Balfe carving through the field behind to fourth, having taken over from Bromiley.
Radical Germany’s Christian Droop, racing this weekend for Slim Racing, held on for fifth, defending to the last from Scottish Radical stalwart, Colin Noble. Noble’s sixth-place finish also gave him the Supersport Class honours, with Speed Factory Racing’s Giorgio Rosa and Henry Van De Heuval second in class. Third in class was taken by Radical newcomer, Chris Dymond, running with Ross Allen.
Per Staaf’s third place overall gave him the Invitational Class victory, with Radical Sweden team-mate Robert Enestedt second. Rhesus Racing’s pairing of Sven Andries and Tim van Gog, with the sole SR4 of Tom Fenik fourth.
Tomorrow’s second race takes place at 09:40 local time; more results to follow.
