Radical European Masters Qualifying: Dijon, France, Saturday 10 October

10th October 2009

The Radical European Masters proved they’re just as adept competing in the wet as in the dry, during an action packed, rain-soaked qualifying session at Dijon, France. The final round of the 2009 Radical European Masters season saw Radical stalwarts John Stanley/James Swift, and Derek Johnston/Stuart Moseley take pole position for race 1 and 2.

Conditions during Friday’s practice were changeable, and despite sunshine during most of Saturday, a heavy shower drenched the circuit only seconds before the start of qualifying. With many competitors optimistically opting for slicks, there was much pit action as drivers quickly adapted to the challenging conditions.

The first qualifying period saw the usual order turned on its head, with John Stanley and James Swift taking top spot, with Jeff Collier/Alex Kapadia second. Cameron MacDonald/Nigel Greensall will start in third spot, and Jamie Patterson. Proving that it wasn't just the V8s on the pace was Thomas Meidinger, the fastest Supersport and fifth overall.

All 29 competitors recorded a time during the session, with Moseley posting the fastest time of 1:24.70, 3.5 seconds ahead of Cameron MacDonald and Nigel Greensall in the second qualifying stint. Championship challengers Jeff Collier and Alex Kapadia set an early time of 1:28.588, wisely skipping the last few minutes of qualifying, rather than risk the slippery conditions. The next three grid slots were filled by Jamie Patterson, Roger Bromiley and Bernd Rosenschon/Christian Drop respectively.

Further down the grid, Giorgio Rosa qualified sixth, and fastest in the Supersport class. Don Patterson and Nigel Morrison lead the Prosport class in both sessions. Race 1 takes place later today, and with the conditions improving, is sure to continue to thrill the spectators and crowds alike.
